The Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. is proud to announce that this year's Wikimania, an annual free culture event bringing Wikimedians together from around the world, will be held August 3-5 in Taipei, Taiwan at Chien Tan Overseas Youth Activity Center. For more information, please see http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page.

Both a scientific conference and a community event, Wikimania brings together members of various Wikimedia projects in order to exchange ideas, build relationships, and report on research and project efforts. It also provides an opportunity for Wikimedians and the general public alike to meet and share ideas about free and open source software, free knowledge initiatives, and wiki projects worldwide.

Two years ago, the Wikimania Conference in Frankfurt, Germany, attracted 380 participants and 120 journalists from around the world. These included veteran participants in Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, renowned bloggers, and exciting speakers from the cutting edge of the Free Knowledge revolution. Wikimania 2006 was held in the academic heartland of America with five hundred people and a very significant media coverage which corresponded with Wikipedia's emergence as one of the ten most-visited sites on the Internet. Our generous sponsors last year included answers.com, Berkman Center for Internet & Society, amazon.com, Nokia, WikiHow, Wetpaint, Ask.com, Yahoo!, Socialtext, IBM, FAQ Farm, Elevation Partners, Open Society Institute, Wikia, Coca Cola and the Sunlight Foundation!

We need your help for Wikimania 2007 to succeed. As a volunteer-driven effort, the Wikimedia Foundation, has, to date, less than ten full time employees and an intern-all of our activities require the goodwill of friends like you. Your support is what makes this possible. Every donation will help to match and exceed the enormous success of the last two year's Wikimanias.

All groups and individuals who donate to Wikimania will receive recognition in our

  • program,
  • press kit,
  • website, and
  • Wall of Donors, which will be displayed prominently at Wikimania.

People who donate $3,000 or more will be named Supporters of Wikimania.
People who donate $6,000 or more will be named Friends of Wikimania.
Supporters and Friends will also be entitled to provide information about their company/firm to the participants at Wikimania at set locations in the venue.

People who donate $18,000 or more will be named Benefactors of Wikimania. In addition to the above benefits, Benefactors will

  • be thanked publicly in the opening and closing remarks of Wikimania,
  • have their names published in the events program.

People who donate $60,000 or more will be named Patrons of Wikimania. Patrons will

  • have publicity materials provided by them included in the folder given out to participants,
  • have publicity materials provided by them included in the press kit,
  • Will be listed in the "joint press releases" issued before, during, and after the event.
  • Will have their banner prominently displayed at public events.

In addition to these sponsorship possibilities, you may be interested in hosting specific events, such as parties, meals, and other events for all of the participants. Your contribution will be recognized through appropriate signage at the event, and there will be opportunities to distribute promotional materials there. Please contact me for further information.

Finally, we are pleased to announce that there will be a limited number of tables set up in central venues, where people will be able to distribute promotional materials to the participants. The cost of a table throughout the conference is $3,000.

Thank you for considering to help us make Wikimania the exciting event we know it will be. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
